IELTS Reading drill · Multiple choice + Yes / No / Not Given
Should dogs come to work?
Some passages are opinion articles. Then the questions ask what the writer thinks: multiple choice, and Yes / No / Not Given. The big trap is mixing up the writer's view with what other people in the article believe.
1Quick tip
💡 TRUE / FALSE / NOT GIVEN is about facts. YES / NO / NOT GIVEN is about the writer's opinions. The way you check them is the same.
Find the writer's voice
- Writer's opinion signals: I would argue, I am not convinced, in my view, of course, should, my conclusion is.
- Other people's views: supporters say, some managers claim, a study found. These are not the writer's opinion, unless the writer agrees.
- Multiple choice: all four options often use words from the passage. Find the right part, read the whole sentence, and cross out the options that say too much or say something different.
